Anne Theresa (MacDonald) MacGillivary, age 92, of New Glasgow, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Valley View Villa in Riverton, NS, surrounded by family.

Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Alexander S. and Mary Elizabeth (George) MacDonald. She was the second youngest in her family and a mother of seven.

Anne was an avid volunteer for many activities such as being a Girl Guide leader taking on many responsibilities. She was a CWL member at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in New Glasgow. During her 55 years of service, she was given the honour of President. She also volunteered to collect for the Heart and Stroke and Diabetes Foundations.

Anne was a devoted mother; she was such an important part in her children’s lives and will be dearly missed.

In Anne’s early years, she was involved with sports and her favourite game was baseball. Her favourite hockey team was the Toronto Maple Leafs; she didn’t miss a game.

She was predeceased by her husband, Blaise Daniel MacGillivary; her daughter, Alice Elizabeth; her daughters-in-law: Valerie and Lynn; son-in-law, John; brothers: Angus, John, Francis, Tom, George, Grant, Simon and Douglas; sisters: Marie, Kay, Helen, Alice, Eileen and infant sister Helen Elizabeth.

Anne had seven children; three daughters: Fran (Ernie), Norma and Alice (Paul); four sons: Danny (Laura), Hubert, Ian (Sue), Blaise (Bev) and a chosen son, John; a very special niece, Patsy, who was more like a daughter; they were inseparable. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Mary MacDonald and Carolyn White.

Anne loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. They all had a special place in her heart.

Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday, January 3, in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral mass 11 am Thursday, January 4, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow, with Fr. Tom MacNeil officiating. The service was recorded, a link is below. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Following the burial, there will be a reception in the Parish Hall hosted by the CWL. Donations in her memory may be made to the CWL or a charity of choice.

Many thanks to the staff at Valley View Villa who were so kind to our mom.
