It is with heavy hearts the family of Robert A. Douglas
announce his sudden passing on February
20 th at the QEII Hospital, Halifax
NS.
Rob was born on September 7, 1961 in New Glasgow to the late
John T. and Edna Douglas.
Rob attended school in New Glasgow, graduating from New
Glasgow High School in 1979. Rob went on to attend St.
Mary’s University in Halifax, graduating with a Bachelor of
Business Administration in 1985. He returned to New Glasgow to join
his father in the family business at R. A Douglas LTD, a construction
company established by his grandfather, his namesake Robert A., which
is still based in Alma, Pictou County.
Rob’s happy place was always the family cottage at
Melmerby where he grew up spending every summer at the shore. Rob
loved sitting on the deck talking to friends and enjoyed Happy Hours
with his neighbours, who were very much like family. Rob also took
great pride in his weekend brunches and his roast beef family dinners.
Rob was the only one in the family his mother trusted with the gravy
recipe.
Rob was a Past President of the Bluenose Curling Club where
he spent many years enjoying the sport. Rob was passionate about
hockey including the Toronto Maple Leafs, with Rob also being actively
involved in both John and Jennifer’s hockey teams when they
were growing up. Rob was a member of the Trinity United Church, as
well as engaging in various programs and activities within the
community over the years.
In addition to his parents the late John T. and Edna Douglas,
Rob was predeceased by his aunt Mary McInnis, brothers-in-law, Eddie
and Roy Cameron, Fred Hagen and his in-laws, John and Ruth
Cameron.
Rob’s very essence was his love for family. He is
survived by his loving partner, Donna Cameron, his wonderful children
and his pride and joy, John (Krissi) and Jennifer (Rob); his sisters,
Heather and Libby Douglas, sisters-in-law, Linda and Donna Cameron,
Debbie (Melvin) Cruikshank; brothers-in-law, Arnie (Debbie) Cameron,
Alvin (Joy) Cameron; his Webber and McWilliam cousins as well as many
nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sutton and the nurses at
the Aberdeen Hospital as well as the doctors and nurses at the QE11
Coronary Care Unit.
Visitation will take place Sunday, February
25 th from 1:30 - 3:00 pm at R.H.
Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. A private family
service to follow. Burial will be at a later date at the Alma
Cemetery.
If so inclined, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia
Chapter of the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Pictou County
SPCA.
