Nancy Wilson

1948-2024

Nancy Wilson

Nancy Jean Wilson, 75, formerly of New Glasgow, died peacefully on March 25, 2024 at Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Nancy was the daughter of Floyd MacKinnon and Shirley (Coll) MacKinnon (both deceased).

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Jim, and daughter, Jennifer (Matthew), Toronto, and their children, Eric and Isla; daughter, Jill (Curt), Halifax, and their daughter, Skye; daughter, Kathryn (Daniel), Dartmouth, and their children, Kaysee, Ava, Marcus and Luke; and daughter, Ellen (Matthew), Toronto, and their daughters, Mara and Clare. She was a proud "Nana" to her grandchildren and delighted in reading books, playing cards, doing puzzles, crafting, baking, singing and playing the piano with them.

Nancy is also survived by her sisters, Norma (David), Chiang Mai, and Joan (Dwight), Charlottetown, and several nephews, a niece and cousins.

Nancy was a proud Islander, attending Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown before graduating from Dalhousie University with a B.A. and B.Ed.  She taught elementary school in both Dartmouth and Pictou County.

Nancy was a woman of many talents, but none more pronounced than her exceptional abilities as a homemaker. She considered her family to be her greatest accomplishment and she relished the opportunity to provide a rich home life for them. She was an excellent cook and took pride in knowing that she passed this skill on to her daughters. With such talents, Nancy was a wonderful hostess, cherishing opportunities to not only gather with family, but also her wide circle of friends for cups of tea, afternoons of bridge, book club and many wonderful dinners. By her talents, she taught her daughters that the beauty of life is to be found in the details.

Nancy was also a wonderful listener, with a great sense of humor. She was a trusted confidante to her husband, daughters, sisters and friends. They were the lucky recipients of countless thoughtful gestures by which she showed them her love. Her sage advice and ability to elevate any occasion will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Nancy was a tireless volunteer who gave many hours to a wide variety of organizations in Pictou County. She took particular pride in her long-time involvement with the New Glasgow Music Festival and, more recently, Meals on Wheels. She believed that any job worth doing was worth doing well and she took pleasure in her ability to recruit an army of volunteers for these worthy organizations.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all of the caregivers and wonderful friends who provided support to Nancy during her illness. They enabled Nancy to enjoy a high quality of life to the end, which is something she valued immensely.
