Peter Grieves

Peter Grieves

Peter John Grieves, passed away peacefully at home, in Kings Head, NS, surrounded by his family, on March 25, 2024.

Peter was born in London, England, son of the late Dr. John and Christine Grieves. He attended Lady Eden’s School and Ludgrove in England, Cordwalles in Africa, and NGHS in Nova Scotia. He obtained a B.Sc from Dalhousie University and an Engineering Degree from T.U.N.S.

Peter was a gifted mathematician and historian with a special interest in global politics.

Peter never hesitated to help a friend; whether it was to build a barn, an access ramp, tutor a child in math, fix a problem or simply be there for them. A very private person, he dearly missed his friends from the hunting camp who predeceased him and enjoyed watching their sons carry on the tradition.

Peter was a kind, gentle, empathetic, intellectual with a keen sense of humor, sound to the end.

No father ever loved his children more or was more proud of their accomplishments.

A special thank you to all the Palliative Care Nurses and Doctors, VON Nurses and LPNs and all the Home Care women whose empathy and care made it possible for Peter to remain at home with us.

Peter is survived by his wife and partner of more than 50 years, Dana Mackay; his daughters, Ann Grieves (Brandon Brett), Kelly Grieves (Christopher Carrine) and his much-loved grandchildren, Emma and Gavin Brett, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Grieves.

There will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place. His family will receive family and old friends on Saturday, August 3, 2024, between 2-4 pm, at the Cottage. Donations in his memory may be made to the Pictou County Food Bank. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.

When all is said and done: He is loved and he will be missed.
