Linda Ann McDade (nee Scharfe), born November 18, 1947, in Ottawa, Ontario, passed away on January 13, 2024, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the cherished wife of Robert McDade, and the devoted mother of Melissa (Misty). Linda held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, whom she adored, Connor, Isabella (Mason Harding), and Carmelle McKay. She also leaves behind her brother, Ronald (Leonora), her grandchildren’s father, Paul McKay, and various relatives, including sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, all of whom she held dear.
During her professional career, Linda served as an elementary schoolteacher, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives in multiple schools across Westville, Nova Scotia. Beyond her career, Linda found joy in spending time with her family, traveling, and relishing winters in Fort Myers, Florida. She had a passion for crosswords, reading, and all things Tom Selleck. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing volleyball and badminton with her husband and friends from the community.
Throughout her life, Linda faced numerous health challenges, including surviving deep vein thrombosis multiple times, battling cancer twice, enduring multiple strokes, and overcoming a major heart attack. Despite these obstacles, she approached life with unwavering determination, earning her reputation as a true warrior. Linda's mantra was, "If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well."
Her vibrant spirit and love for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A celebration of Linda's life will be held on Saturday, June 8th, 2024, from 2-4pm at Summer Street Industries, 72 Park St., New Glasgow. Words of Remembrance will begin at 3pm. Attendees are encouraged to wear joyful colors as they gather to honor Linda's memory and share fond memories with friends and family. Guests are invited to share words of remembrance.
