Lena Frances McKay, age 66, passed away peacefully surrounded
by family on Friday, June 28, 2024 at the Aberdeen Hospital in New
Glasgow after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lena was born in Kentville, Nova Scotia on July 17, 1957 to
Donald and Joyce McKay and resided most of her life in Pictou County.
She was a proud mother of her only son, Sean.
Lena was a very strong, independent woman who lived life on
her own terms. She fell in love often and with her whole heart. She
was a radio DJ in the 80’s in Kentville and then in New
Glasgow and was loved by listeners for her quirky jokes on air. Lena
was an avid reader and very artistically talented. She loved glitter
and glam but also dirty fingernails from gardening and had a green
thumb like no other. She enjoyed many summers at the camp in Goshen
and taking baths in the lake.
Lena was predeceased by her fiancé, Horst Teiber;
her father, Donald; and sisters, Patricia and Joy (in
infancy).
Lena is survived by her son, Sean McKay; mother, Joyce McKay;
two brothers, Richard and Donald; five sisters, Donna (Jim) Wilson;
Sherry (Barry) Malcolm; Ila (Dale) Miller; Mary Eason; Rachel (Steve)
Chisholm; and beloved cousins, nieces and nephews
The family would like to offer a special heartfelt thank you
to the teams in the oncology and palliative care units as they treated
her with love, respect and dignity, you are special
people.
