Maria Fraser Martens (nee Hayden), passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2024, in Buffalo, NY with close family by her side. Maria was born on Oct 19, 1936 in New Glasgow, NS to parents Marian C. Hayden (nee Cantley) and W. Thomas Hayden, QC. Along with her older sisters, Catherine and Ruth, she was raised in Bonnie Brae on Almont Ave. In 1963, she married Adam Carr Bell IV (also of New Glasgow) and moved to Boston where she worked as a dietician. In 1975, she married Hinrich Martens. They enjoyed a loving marriage of nearly 50 years, raising 6 children, David Martens, Philip Martens, Clark Martens, Adam Bell, Susan Bell (MacDougall) and Polly Martens (Culver). A loving mother, homemaker, and grandmother to her 14 grandchildren, she carried the Maritime spirit into all of our lives. Maria will be deeply missed and will remain in our hearts forever.
