He was involved with Trenton Minor Sports and a founding member of the Trenton Community Rink.  He was inducted into the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame on two occasions: once as a member of the Maritime Senior "A" Championship softball team, and once as a founder of the Trenton Rink. Doug was a member of the Atlantic Trap and Skeet Association and the Maritime Trap Singles Champion in 1967.
