It’s with profound sadness that we announce the
passing of our dad, William Joseph (Bill) Dewtie of Thorburn, on March
26, 2025 at the Aberdeen Hospital (Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow)
surrounded by his loving family at the age of 90.
He was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia (October 25, 1934) to
the late Joseph and Margaret (Pitts) Dewtie.
Our dad retired from the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission after
20 years of service. Bill also worked for Sobeys and Atlantic
Wholesale, along with owning and operating Dewtie’s Grocery
in Thorburn for many years.
Bill was a long-time member of St. Ann’s Parish and
Cemetery Committee, the Knights of Columbus 1667 and was a member of
the Westville Garden Club.
Bill was predeceased by his loving wife, Marie (Farrell);
sons: Mark and Paul; and brothers: Wallace and Francis. He is survived
by his daughter, Jean (Phil) Cameron; sons: Kevin (Jan), Glen
(Lesley), Christopher (Jamie); grandchildren: Stephen, Glen (Lindsay),
Corey (Alex), Blair, Avery, Courtney (Adam), Dyllan, Kaebrie; and
great-granddaughter, Rowan.
He’s also survived by sisters: Margaret
Ann (Buddy), Joann and Kenda; brothers: John, Seymour, Frank, George
and Art.
The family would like to thank the staff at Valley View Villa
for making our dad's stay so welcoming. We would also like to thank
his roommate, Morris McDermid, for being such a great
friend.
Special thanks to the nurses and doctors on the fourth floor
of the Aberdeen Hospital as well as the Palliative Care
Unit for taking such great care of our dad.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, April 3rd from
5-8 pm at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow.
Knights of Columbus Council 1667 will meet at the funeral home at 8pm
Thursday for prayers.
Funeral service will be held Friday, April 4th at 11am at the
R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow with Fr. Peter MacDonald
officiating.
Interment will take place at St. Ann’s Cemetery,
Thorburn following a reception at R.H. Porter Funeral
Home.
Donations may be made to Valley View Villa Recreation Fund or
a charity of choice.
