Dorothy Arlene Wilson (née Clark), a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025 at the age of 96. Born on March 2, 1929 in Ecum Secum, Nova Scotia, Dorothy lived a full life marked by kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for her family.
Dorothy was the devoted wife to Edwin, mother of Susan (Larry) Morrison, Michael (Ramona) Wilson, and Mark (Michelle Zunti) Wilson. Her greatest joy was her family, and she dedicated her life to their happiness and well-being.
Dorothy spent her early years in Ecum Secum with her adoring mother and grandparents. In her early teens during World War II, she worked as a telephone operator in their Ecum Secum home, managing a very busy switchboard alongside her mother and grandmother. This involved receiving coded wartime calls and messages. In 1946, after pursuing a business diploma from Maritime Business College, she accepted office job in the Revenue Department at Maritime Tel and Tel in Halifax. After marrying Edwin in 1950, she moved to New Glasgow, working for a plumbing and heating business where she maintained their books with accuracy and precision. Eventually, she settled in as a dedicated homemaker there, sharing 60 wonderful years of marriage with her husband. She was a Member of St. Georges Anglican Church and served in the Sanctuary Guild (ACW) and was actively involved in the community. She volunteered at the Aberdeen Hospital Gift Shop, was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and she regularly canvassed for the Heart and Stroke Association, the Canadian Cancer Society and other charitable associations.
Dorothy loved gardening and dancing to the Glenn Miller Orchestra. In The Mood was her favorite song.
She will be remembered for her strong faith, compassion, generosity and thoughtfulness. Her legacy of love will be carried on by all who were fortunate to know her.
Dorothy, an only child, was predeceased by her mother, Susan Clark, her father, Clifford Clark, her loving husband, Edwin Wilson, numerous sisters and brothers in-law, and great-grandson, Dylan Walsh in infancy. In addition to her children, Dorothy is survived by sister-in-law, Edna Wilson, brother in-law, Lawrence Wilson, her grandchildren, Lisa (Nic), Nicole (Peter), Brian (Brittany), Charlie (Taylor), Eric, Olivia and Quinn as well as her great-grandchildren, Clara, Noah, Liam, Cora and Hannah, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.
The family is grateful for the care provided and compassion shown by the committed staff of both East River Manor and Glen Haven Manor.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at St. Georges Anglican Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Jeanne Hunter officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of her life following the service in the Church Hall. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to St. Georges Anglican Church, Souls Harbour Rescue Mission or the IWK Foundation.
