It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Bessie Elaine Simpson on May 30th, 2025, at the age of
77. Bessie was born on March 13th, 1948 in Thorburn to John
and Verda (Clyburn) Rector. Bessie met the love of her life
and beloved husband, Robert Simpson, 51 years ago. Together
they lived a life full of laughter, hard work, and a genuine
compassion for each other, their family, friends and
community.
Bessie loved life, although it was not always easy; she
turned to her spirituality to get her through illnesses and great
losses that she had in her life. In Bessie's early years she worked at
the Coffee Pot in downtown New Glasgow. She later discovered her gift
and passion for caring for others. Bessie had story telling
eyes, from across the room her eyes would convey love and admiration,
frustration, and pure joy. Her laughter and smile were contagious;
when she laughed you couldn't help but join in until your belly
hurt. She loved music and dancing; she often told stories
about the Goodman dances.
Bessie was predeceased by her mother, Verda; father, John;
sister, Annie (Pat); brother, John (Chrissy); brother-in law,
Howard; sons: Robbie and Timmie; and grandson, Brandon.
Bessie is survived by her husband, Robert Simpson; son, Johnnie;
daughter, Tammy (Kirk, J.T. & Emma), the apple of her eyes,
Tristen, Kayden (Mackenzie) and Brandon; sister, Joan; chosen sons:
Leo (Arlene); Wayne (Trina); Howie (Melvin); Arthur, who
called her Mom; and many nieces, nephews, and
great-grandchildren.
Bessie will be greatly missed by all those who had the
pleasure of knowing her. She will live on in the stories that are
shared and laughter that will follow.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8pm Monday, June 2nd at the
R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Service 11am
Tuesday, June 3rd at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, with
Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Burial to follow at Holy Cross
Cemetery, New Glasgow. There will also be a celebration of life,
Friday, June 6, 7-11pm, Stellarton Legion.
The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the
staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital for their
care and compassion, the Eastside Health Clinic for their unwavering
dedication and advocacy, and friends and family who supported us and
Mom through her illness. Thank you does not quite seem like enough but
know that we appreciated every kind gesture, big and small; it will
not be forgotten.
