Daniel John "Arnold" MacFarlane, Smith’s Lane, Abercrombie

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel John "Arnold" MacFarlane on July 7, 2025, in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital.

Known affectionately by many names - Slim, Ringo, Damper Dan, and Arnie - Arnold was born, raised, married, and built a life in Abercrombie with the love of his life, Georgina (Morrison). Over their 57 years of marriage, they raised three children, six grandchildren, and were blessed with three great-grandchildren.

Arnold began working at Scott Paper in 1967 and retired 30 years later with his Grade 12 diploma, a Millwright trade, and more courses than he knew what to do with - a true testament to his drive and work ethic.

Throughout his life, Arnold was deeply involved in his community. From 4-H square dances to tug-of-war competitions, and even singing in the local barbershop quartet, he was always eager to participate and connect. He was a proud and active member of the Abercrombie Community Centre and served with great respect as a trustee of the Abercrombie Cemetery.

Arnold loved tinkering in his yard and had a lifelong passion for vintage cars. In his later years, he found joy in traveling to car shows and sharing that passion with others. His favorite place to relax was White Sands, PEI - his home away from home - where family vacations brought laughter, and friends became family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Georgina (Morrison) MacFarlane; children, Clifford, John, and Belinda; grandchildren, Barry, Tasha, Nathaniel, Breanna, Brianna, and Jayden; great-grandchildren, Joel, River, and Layla; brothers, James (Jimmy) MacFarlane and George MacFarlane; sisters, Agnes Campbell and Florence MacLean.

He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Margaret (Reid) MacFarlane; in-laws, Clifford "Mort" and Sarah (DeRosche) Morrison; brothers, Maynard and David MacFarlane; and in-laws, Keith and Linda (Morrison) Mayo.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care team at Aberdeen Hospital and the VON nurses whose visits brought comfort, conversation, and dignity to Arnold’s final days.

As per Arnold’s wishes, a private service will be held for immediate family. His final resting place will be in the Abercrombie Cemetery - a place he held in deep regard. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
