It is with broken hearts that the family of Paul Benjamin Doucette, 81, of Trenton, NS, announce his passing on July 14, 2025 in the Aberdeen Hospital, listening to the golden oldies and holding the hands of his loving daughter, Jennifer and her partner, Shaun. Paul was surrounded by family and friends over his last few days as he left this world to continue on his next journey.
Paul was born on March 23,1944 in Harvey Station, NB to his loving parents, Marcel and Anna Doucette. The family moved to Trenton, NS when Paul was small. The family continued to grow and Paul was the 4th born of 16 children. To many, Paul was known as "one of the Doucette boys".
In Paul’s younger years, he helped his father Marcel in the family-owned carpentry business "The Little Builder". When he was 17, he began working at Trenton Works in the Punch and Shear Department. Paul’s knowledge and work ethic went above and beyond. He retired in 2007 when the plant shutdown.
More than anything, Paul was a family man and a man of great faith. He met his loving wife, Shirley, of 56 years at the age of 23. Together, they had one daughter, Jennifer. Most of all, Paul’s pride and joy were his grandchildren, Bailey and Nolan. You could always find Paul at Nolan’s hockey or Bailey’s soccer games. He was so proud of the accomplishments of both of his grandchildren. The three of them have a bond that is unbreakable. He was the best Papa in the world and leaves behind a hole in everyone’s heart. The memories they made will live on forever.
Paul had a love for sports. Whether it was on the ice, playing ball, a card game, or a game of washer toss, you were up against some strong competition. Horseshoes especially held a special place in Paul’s heart, playing alongside his father-in-law, George Reynolds.
To know Paul was to love him. He had a special language of his own and told you what he thought, whether you liked it or not. He loved weekends at the camp, making memories with his brothers; Friday evenings, making the rounds to his typical stops; going to NB in the summer time to visit family; and his everyday outing to meet the boys for coffee to discuss "important topics".
Neighbors hold a special place in Paul’s heart; always willing to lend a helping hand. A special thank you goes out to John Veiling and Greg MacGillivray for their help and kindness over the past few years. You became more than just neighbors but lifelong friends.
Paul loved his many nieces and nephews. Whenever he was around, you could count on having a laugh.
Paul will be deeply missed by his wife Shirley (Reynolds), his daughter, Jennifer (Shaun Reid) and especially his grandchildren, Bailey and Nolan MacDonald.
He will be forever loved and missed as a brother to: David (Karen), Bobby (Carol), Kenny (Denise), Leon (Sue), Joan (Dave MacKay), Lorna (Gerry Wadden), Patsy (Glen MacKinnon), Mary Jean and Brenda; sister-in-law, Pat (Gary "Gibby").
He will be forever missed and loved by his extended family, Marilyn Chiasson (Ron), Marion McCarron (Philip) and George Reynolds.
Paul was predeceased and will be greeted by his parents, Marcel and Anna; brothers, Joey, Eric, Ritchie, Gary "Gibby" and Gerry; sister, Faye (Doucette- Logan); nephew, Christopher; brother-in-law, Vernon Hoare (Mary Jean); sister-in-law, Evelyn (Gerry); father-in-law, George Reynolds and mother-in-law, Lyda Reynolds (Forward).
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses of the RCU in Pictou, the 4th floor of the Aberdeen Hospital and Palliative Care for their kindness during this difficult time.
Paul was a loving son, husband, father, papa, brother, son-in-law, uncle and friend. Until we meet again.
Cremation has taken place. As per Paul’s wishes, a public graveside service will be held at 1pm on Friday, October 24, 2025, in Christ the King Cemetery, Trenton. Celebration of Life to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br 29, Trenton. Donations in Paul’s name may be made to the Palliative Care Unit c/o Aberdeen Health Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home.
