With great sadness, we announce the passing of our dear brother, John Hugh Power, 63, of Burnaby, British Columbia, formerly of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on August 11, 2025.

He was the son of the late Francis Roderick (Rod) and Agnes (MacDonald) Power, of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.

John Hugh attended St. John’s Academy, New Glasgow, and attended the NSCC Community College in Truro where he obtained his refrigeration certificate. John Hugh then carried forward with earning his Certified Exposure Device Operator Certificate and made his career working with Acuren Group Inc. for over 30 years in British Columbia.

He is survived by his sisters: Joan (Calvert) Leng, Halifax; Geraldine (Harold) Fraser, Thorburn; Phyllis (Robert) Peers, Pine Tree; nephews: Shane O’Neill and Christopher Fraser; nieces: Annette Fraser, Tara Fraser, Jennifer (O’Neill) Wallace, Kelly Ann Leng, Kathleen (O’Neill) Rand and Colleen O’Neill, who brought great joy to him; many grand nieces and nephews; his aunt, Marie Power; Godmother, Rose (Gouthro) St. Clair; and numerous cherished cousins.   Surviving also are his chosen Burnaby family: Richie McGrath and Margaret Jean Buck, along with their daughters Celia and Zara. He also leaves behind a wide circle of close friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Danny and Freddy; his nephew, Troy Fraser and chosen nephew, Frankie G.

We would like to deeply thank Richie, Margaret Jean and their girls for always being there and putting a smile on John Hugh’s face, and being with him throughout the years, especially the last few months of his illness.  It has been a great consolation in knowing John Hugh never had a day alone without family by his side.  Also, we would like to express sincere gratitude to caregivers of St Michael’s Center Hospice staff for keeping John Hugh comfortable in his last weeks.

There will be no visitation or funeral at John Hugh’s request.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of John Hugh to a food bank in your area, or to MitoCanada. Donations will go towards Celia McGrath’s Frankie G Pub night fundraising efforts in support of MitoCanada.
