It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary
Fennell, a dearly loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great
great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Mary had a youthful spirit. She
always seemed "forever young" to those around her and her
vibrant energy will be deeply missed.
Mom grew up in the South End of New Glasgow, a place she held
dear all her life.
She had few interests other than her
family. She enjoyed a good book, a great pair of racing skates, a day
at the Merb, a hot cup of tea and a game of cards.
She liked nothing better than a fast walk down the Brook Road
with her good friend, Joanne MacLeod, and her regular Sunday night
visits with her dear friend, Elda.
Mom lovingly raised her own children along with her dear
sister, Brenda.
Mom was very active in the lives of her grandchildren, always
ready to babysit, watch a hockey game and drives to Sunday school
which always included a trip to Tim’s or
MacDonald’s afterwards.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Fennell; her
daughter, Dorothy Fennell; her sisters, Ruby, Dolly and Brenda;
brother, Bill Logan; daughter-in-law, Debbie Fennell; her
parents, Robert and Hannah (Hayman) MacIntosh.
Mary leaves behind a large and loving family, including her
children: Sheila (David) Cluett, Lance; Bobby (Sandy) Fennell, New
Glasgow; Jackie Fennell, MacLellan’s Brook; Donna Fennell,
Stellarton; Hannah Fennell, New Glasgow; Greg (Terri Riley) Fennell,
MacLellan’s Brook; Lesley (Doug) Muir, Tanner Hill. She will
also be remembered by grandchildren: John David, Mathew, Gordon,
Trevor, Larry, Stephen, Michael, Christopher, Hannah, Bradley,
Heather, Phillip, Allison, Olivia, Shelby and Ryan and numerous
great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will take place Monday, September 22 from 2-4 and
7-9pm at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow.
Funeral Tuesday, September 23 at 11am also at R.H. Porter Funeral Home
with Father Peter MacDonald officiating.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made to Summer St.
Industries and/or Pictou County Food
Bank.
The family would like to thank the staff of Valley View Villa
and the Aberdeen Hospital for helping care for Mom.
