M. Kathleen Chisholm, April 24, 1931 - November 6, 2025
M. Kathleen Chisholm (nee McInnis), 94, formerly of New Glasgow, NS, passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 6, 2025 in Summerside, PEI
Kathleen was born and raised in New Glasgow, NS. She loved her childhood growing up on Helene Street in the North End. She had many fond memories from childhood. She attended St. John’s Academy and New Glasgow High School. She worked as an elevator operator in the Maritime Building in downtown New Glasgow as a young adult until she married the love of her life, Ambrose, in 1957 and then she dedicated her life to her family. Together she and Ambrose raised four children. Over the course of their 56 years together, they shared a strong Catholic faith. They lived in Halifax, Antigonish, New Glasgow and Summerside and were inseparable until Ambrose passed in 2013.
An animal lover her entire life, Kathleen cared for many cats and dogs, never refusing to give a home to a stray cat. She loved to watch birds and always had bird feeders to make sure the neighbourhood birds never went hungry. She loved baking, gardening, going for walks and she loved to go out for a car drive to get ice cream, especially in her later years.
Kathleen was predeceased in her teenage years by her parents Hugh and Elizabeth (nee Doyle) McInnis. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ambrose, whom she missed so much after he passed and was left to live with her newly diagnosed dementia without her soulmate. She navigated through her dementia with grace, her beautiful personality shining through with many smiles. She was also predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters-in-law: Margaret Chisholm, John Chisholm (Catherine Toots), Mary Ann Pottie (Joe), Cecelia Noonan (Ray), Rose McLellan (Duncan), Christie Chisholm, Jim Chisholm (Shirley), Ronald Chisholm, Ray Chisholm (Joyce) and niece, Marlene Chisholm.
She is survived by her children: Darrell (Graziella Grbac), Dr. Karen MacDonald, Shauna (Philippe Rodger) and Paula Chisholm. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jennifer, Stephanie (Kevin Pitts), Angela (Corey Good), and Michelle Chisholm (Michael Olenik); Lauren MacDonald; Mathieu, Melanie and Megan Rodger; as well as great grandchildren: Luna Chisholm, Rose Fox, Evangeline and Dayton Good. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow on Monday, November 10 at 1:00 pm. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery followed by a reception in the St. John the Baptist Church Hall. There will be no visitation.
Kathleen’s family are grateful for the caring staff at Summerset Manor who treated her like a family member for the past 5 years. A special thank you goes out to Marilyn Gillis for being such a wonderful friend to Kathleen; your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
