A. David Hughes, April 5, 1961 – November 30, 2025

David Hughes, 64, passed away November 30, 2025 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital surrounded by the love of family and friends. He was born in New Glasgow on April 5, 1961 to parents Fred and Annie (Perry) Hughes of Walkerville.

David was athletic and was usually on the move in his early years, walking and biking all over, stopping to talk or visit with many. He enjoyed a lot of dances at the Sister Catherine Steel Center in Lourdes. Dave took pride in the many Special Olympic Medals he accumulated and his trips to compete with Special Olympics in New York and Vancouver; years of floor hockey and swimming and, more recently, curling and bocce.

David loved hockey and attended Pictou County Crushers and Moosehead games. He was a very dedicated Montreal Canadiens fan and had the opportunity to see a game in Montreal with his good friend, Ryan, a few years ago.

To all who touched Dave’s life through HCRS, Summer Street and Special Olympics, thank you for adding so much kindness and love to his life. To his HCRS family who spent countless hours with Dave and his family during his time in hospital, thank you.

David is survived by his brother, Fred (Mary) Hughes, Stellarton; sister, Margaret (Steve) Cody, Mountville; also many nieces and nephews who were very special to Dave. He was predeceased by parents, Fred and Annie (Perry) Hughes, Walkerville; sisters: Arlene and her husband Bob Smith, Trenton; Carole and her husband Dennis Davidson, New Glasgow.

Visitation 4-6pm Thursday, December 4, in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Private burial will take place at a later date. Donations may be made to HCRS, Summer Street Industries or the Special Olympics.
