Annie Theresa Romans
March 9, 1940 – February 18, 2026
It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beautiful Mom, Anne, who passed away peacefully at Glen Haven Manor with her daughter by her side. Mom spent her last days surrounded by her family and those who loved her.
Born in Trenton, she was a daughter of the late Bert and Annie Fraser. She met the love of her life, James Romans, in Halifax while taking her nursing course and they married in 1960. Anne and Jim lived and worked in Halifax for 3 years. Following the birth of their only daughter, Tana, they moved to London, Ontario where they welcomed their two sons, Jimmy and Karl.
Mom was lonesome for her home province of Nova Scotia and the family moved back in 1970. Anne continued to work while raising her family. Being a strong devoted Catholic, Mom never missed Mass and always said her prayers daily. Over the years, many people would ask her to pray for them. Mom was always known as the "birthday singer". She would call each of us on the phone and sing us Happy Birthday. We will miss those special calls.
Mom loved camping with family and spent many summers on trips with her mom and dad and many brothers and sisters and their families, mostly in Cape Breton, Country Harbour. Coming from a large, close family, there was always a gathering at someone’s home where there was singing, dancing and lots and lots of food.
Anne is survived by her only daughter, Tana (Sonny) Fraser, Trenton; sons: Jimmy (Doreen) Romans, Sackville; and Karl (Cheryl) Romans, Country Harbour; grandchildren: Robert (Lindsay), Andrew (Trish), Michael (Hannah), Kyle, Courtney; her great-grandchildren who were her greatest gift: Emma, Keegan, Ben, Reid, Laine, Joey, Maverick and Chloe.
She is also survived by her brother, Buddie (Pat) Fraser; sisters: Margie (Eldred) MacKenzie, Mary (David) Urquhart, Sharon (Chuckie) Brown, Bernadette Cooke, Brenda (Terk) Anderson. Anne is also survived by many other family members too numerous to mention and the last surviving member of Jim’s immediate family, brother, Clary Romans, Halifax.
Anne was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2019 after 59 years of marriage; sisters: Mabel, Marie; brother, Lewie and sister-in-law, Mabel; brother-in-law, Wayne Cooke.
Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral Mass and Celebration of Mom’s life will be held at 11am Saturday morning (Feb. 21) at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. All are welcome. Cremations has taken place. Burial to take place at a later date.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Glen Haven Manor where she has been a resident for the past 4 years. We would also like to thank the amazing staff who provided Mom with exceptional care during the last days of her life, many who went above and beyond making sure that Mom was comfortable. It meant the world to us.
