Mary Evelyn (Dahl) Frost MacDonald (91) of Stellarton, NS, passed away at home on March 4, 2026. Mary was born in Lourdes to the late Franklin (Frank) Frost and Telena (Till) (Gerrior) Frost.
After attending Stellarton High School, she was employed at Maritime Tel (New Glasgow). After saving some money, she attended Mount Saint Bernard College (St. Francis Xavier University) graduating with a diploma in Secretarial Science. Mary worked outside the home her entire life, first at Donato Faini & Figli (Canada) Ltd. in Stellarton and later at Family Services of Pictou County.
Mary and her husband Francis (Tubby) MacDonald (d. 1992) loved their large extended families with a fierce devotion and loyalty. In fact, as the oldest of 8 children, Mary never stopped referring to her younger siblings as "the kids". Both Mary and Tubby were social butterflies and truly lived life to the max. They could often be found gliding around an area skating rink, dancing the night away (esp. to old time fiddle music and 50’s jive music) or laughing and socializing with their large circle of friends. Without a doubt, her favorite leisure activity was her long-time involvement with the ‘Fiddlin’ Around’ Fiddlers and the "Pictou County Ukulele Group", which involved countless performances at various nursing homes and community events.
The other significant component of Mary’s life was her strong faith and when possible was a daily communicant. She had a huge daily prayer list and was a "go to" person for anyone with a special request. This faith sustained her through many of life’s challenges, including her husband’s long-term health issues and later during her own health decline.
Mary is survived by her son, Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald, who selflessly cared for her, as well as her daughter, Debra MacDonald (Kevin Kelloway). Also mourning her loss are siblings, Grace Lank, Penticton, B.C.; Patricia (Jack) Andrews, Big Interval, C.B.; Dennis (Norma) Frost, Lourdes, N.S.; Claudia Gard, London, Ont.; Carol (Jerry) Acorn and John (Brenda) Frost, both in Cobble Hill, B.C.; and Donald (Susan) Frost, MacLellan’s Mountain, N.S. Also missing her are numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by numerous cousins, sisters- and brothers-in-law; aunt and uncles; nieces and nephews.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the numerous people who helped lighten the load in her last years, especially Homecare and VON staff and most recently the Earth Angels ladies. In recent months, the "Burns" sisters have been an invaluable source of kindness and support to both Mary and Sandy – truly an answer to our prayers. Thanks also to the staff of the New Glasgow Library and staff of Appleseed Restaurant.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, there is no visitation and cremation has taken place. Funeral mass 11am Friday, June 5, at Church of the Holy Name, Westville, with Fr. Peter MaDonald officiating. Private family interment to take place.
If so desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. In Mary’s memory, always look for ways to care for others and, "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about". Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home.
