It’s with heavy hearts that on April 4, 2026 we
said farewell to Roderick "Rod" Arthur Flavin, husband,
father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Rod was 84 years
old. He was born in Guysborough, N.S. on May 24, 1941 to the late
Nicholas and Mabel (Hudson) Flavin.
Rod is survived by his sons, David (Lana) and Roddie; his
sister, Irene MacDonald of Barrie ON, and brothers-in-law, Bob MacLean
of New Glasgow and Aubrey Duprey of Scotsburn; granddaughters, Emily
and Isabelle; step-grandson, Vitalii; great-grandchildren, Ivan and
Dasha; as well as numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of his
family.
Dad loved to hunt and fish and, of course, he loved to cook
as all the family knows. In his younger years, he loved cars as well,
so, the picture of him in a 1923 Ford T-Bucket Hot Rod is
fitting.
He was predeceased by his loving wife and partner of over 60
years, Elizabeth "Betty" (MacLean) Flavin; his brothers,
Gerald, Charlie, Francis, Lorne; and sisters, Mary, Millie, Maria and
Jean; brothers-in-law, Joe, Jack, Ducky, Harvey, Sonny, Leo, Donald,
Gerald, Ken; and sisters-in-law, Isabelle, Marion, Kaye, Beverly and
Lottie.
No visitation by request. Funeral Mass will be held 11am
Saturday, April 18, at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church,
390 High Street, New Glasgow, with Father Godwin Kalu
officiating.
Donations may be made in Rod’s name to the CNIB or charity
of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter
Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
