John Joseph "Bun" MacDonald of Westville passed
away peacefully on Friday, May 1 at the age of 86 at the Aberdeen
Hospital, New Glasgow, NS.
Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of Roderick J. and C.
Elizabeth MacDonald. He worked as an accountant for 45 years at White
Motor Corporation, Franks Trucking and Delco Wire and Cable, retiring
in 2010 to return to Nova Scotia.
He grew up in the North End of New Glasgow attending St.
John’s Academy, spending most of his free time playing
baseball and hockey. In later life, he added golf and curling. An avid
fan of most sports, he especially loved the Montreal Canadiens and his
beloved Toronto Blue Jays.
He is survived by Donna, his wife of 63 years; daughter, Kim
(Ed) Bowie; son-in-law, Wayne Sparkes; his grandchildren, Alix and
Drue Bowie, Colton Fournier, Megan Sparkes and great-grandson, Kiefer
Bowie; sisters, Ann Bates and Mary (Al) Sutherland; brothers, Neil,
Lawrence and George "Willy" (Marion). He was predeceased by
his daughter, Tracy (2025); his brothers, Francis, Donald
"Duke" and Louis; sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Lolly and Isabel;
brother-in-law, Lennie Bates.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held
on Tuesday, May 5 at 11am, at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont
Ave., New Glasgow, NS. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative
Care Unit c/o Aberdeen
Health Foundation.
