Milton Daniel "Danny" Irving, 76, New Glasgow, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, in his home with his wife of 48 years, Patricia (Kennedy) Irving.

Born June 12, 1950 to the late Milton Irving and Harriet "Hattie" (Fraser) Irving, he grew up causing trouble in Pictou Landing with his two brothers and five sisters.

Danny had many jobs over the course of his life including gift wrapping at Christmas time, working at a chocolate factory in Toronto, and painting, but most notably, his career at the Trenton Car Works, before taking on his most important job – stay-at-home dad to his five children.

He married the love of his life, Patricia "Pat", on February 14, 1978. Shortly after, they had their first daughter, Erica. Then came Jeremy, Amy and, after a little convincing on Pat's part, Pamela and Emily.

A fond memory is of Danny and Pat loading up their red van with their kids and driving the 2200 miles from Nova Scotia to Florida for family vacations; a drive Danny did many times and often joked it is why he had no hair left.

Danny enjoyed many things in his life including antique cars and trucks, tinkering in his garage, kayaking and sailing, playing cards, and experimenting in the kitchen, but his true passion was watching his children and grandchildren grow.

Danny was Mr. Fix It, Doctor Dan and the guy you would call if you needed anything at all. He loved to lend a helping hand and was actively involved in his 11 grandchildren's lives. He attended every hockey game, birthday party, Christmas concert; if it involved his children and grandchildren, Danny Irving was there.

In Danny's words, he "just wanted to have fun" and he sure did. He always had a new story to share while sitting around a fire in his backyard or at the dinner table, each story crazier than the last.

While he appeared to be grouchy most of the time, he had a very sensitive and loving heart and he cared deeply for his entire family.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Lisa and his sister, Edith Mae.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, New Glasgow; siblings: Sarah Jane (Charles Waters), Little Harbour; Joey, Pictou Landing; Bobby (Vicki MacKinnon), Chance Harbour; Mary (Gary Vacheresse), Pictou Landing, Nancy (John Fraser), Black Point; children: Erica (Jon Mackay), New Glasgow; Jeremy, Ottawa; Amy (Chris Sieburn), White Hill; Pamela (Claude Godin), Pictou Landing; Emily (Justin Hutchinson), New Glasgow; grandchildren: Mickey, Oola, Kemper, Sebastien, William, Wyatt, Jackson, Irving, Charlotte, Angus, Findley.

The burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Pictou Landing on Saturday, June 20 at 2pm followed by a Celebration of Life at the Bethel Presbyterian Church Hall, Pictou Landing at 3pm.

"Long life to him, there is no other can take the place of my Dear Father"
