Alan Scott Malcolm, 69, of New Glasgow, NS, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, surrounded by his common-law spouse and his immediate family. Scott was born on December 12, 1956, to Courtney Malcolm and the late Ann Malcolm (Sutherland) in the old Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, NS

Scott worked in a few different administration positions in his career and spent most of those working for C.F. Construction at their head office.

Scott played and enjoyed many sports and had a special attachment to both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Montreal Canadiens, A testament to those teams is his closet is packed with team memorabilia. Scott was also known for his wit, sometimes referred to by some as "The Riddler"; his sarcasm was passed down to him by his mother, and he has continued the legacy. Scott was a strong supporter of the Cat Carma in Pictou County and has made many rescues to forgotten kitties. Imagine Scottie a softie.

Scott had special friendships with Frankie Barteux, Marlene Sheehan and always marveled playing with his grandson, Hayden.

Scott is survived by his common-law spouse, Valerie Rhyno, her children: Nick Copan, Andrew Copan (Ashley) and grandchildren: Damon and Hayden; his father, Courtney Malcolm; siblings: Heather Butchart, Michael Malcolm (Sherry); a niece and two nephews. Scott was predeceased by his mother, Anne Malcolm (Sutherland)

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and entire staff at the Halifax Infirmary who handled Scott with care and did all they could to repair his illnesses.

A Gathering will be held in Scott’s honor on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 1-4pm at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55Almont Avenue, New Glasgow, NS, B2H 3G5

Charitable donations may be made to either the local Cat CARMA (Pictou County Chapter, PO Box 1369, Pictou, NS, BOK 1HO) or the Kidney Foundation.
