In Loving Memory of Brant MacCallum
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Brant MacCallum on July 20th, 2026 at the age of 76.
Brant was a loving husband, father, stepfather and Grampy. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, who brought immeasurable happiness to his life.
Born in New Glasgow to the late Charles and Helen (Gould) MacCallum, Brant was also predeceased by his only brother, Ronald MacCallum.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Arlis (Carroll) MacCallum; daughters: Melanie (Jon), Truro; Kristie (Josh), Australia; stepchildren: Karla (McChesney) Clarke, Ottawa; Derick McChesney, Toronto and his grandchildren: Liam, Taylor, Thomas, Ottawa; William and Bennett, Toronto.
Brant began his career with The Bank of Nova Scotia before embarking on a long and successful career as a Millwright with Michelin Tire, where he worked for more than 30 years. He was respected for his dedication, strong work ethic and friendships he built throughout his career.
Brant believed in giving back to his community. He was an active member of the men’s fitness program at the YMCA for many years where he formed lasting friendships. He was a proud member of The New Glasgow Kinsmen Club and K-40 and also a member of the board of directors with Pictou County Special Olympics. One of Brant’s proudest experiences was paddling on the East River with Special Olympians for the first time ever in a dragon boat. Out on the water with these athletes, making unforgettable memories and helping to raise funds for three charities was a highlight for everyone.
Before Brant’s stroke, he and Arlis enjoyed many wonderful winters in Florida where they made countless, lifelong friends. Brant embraced an active lifestyle, enjoying tennis, hockey, biking, pickleball and spending time on the golf course, his favourite pastime. The family extends heartfelt thanks to his golf buddies who looked after him following his stroke and continued to include him in their friendships. Your kindness gave Brant many happy memories during a difficult time.
Arlis and her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the outstanding staff at Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home in Trenton. Over the past three years, Brant received exceptional care, with compassion and respect from all staff, especially his care givers, management and social activities director. Brant certainly had some "Special Angels" for which we will be forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ivey’s Terrace, Social Relations. Arrangements are under the direction of RH Porter funeral home. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
