William Walter "Bill" McTague, 69, of Lorne Street, New Glasgow, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Q.E. II Infirmary Site, Halifax. Born in Sydney, he was the only son of the late John William and Jean Clara (Cunningham) McTague of New Glasgow. He was a graduate of Fredericton's Teachers’ College and Mount Allison University. Bill was a teacher by trade, eventually serving as principal for River John Consolidated, AG Baillie and Frank H. MacDonald Schools. He served for over 30 years in education. An author by choice, he loved to write a good tale. Bill was a devoted member of Christ the King Parish where he served on the Parish Council and was an Altar Server. He was a member of the New Glasgow Knights of Columbus No. 1667 and Msgr. Moses M. Coady Assembly No. 2222. Bill was a Board Member of the Riverside Cemetery Company, serving as secretary for many years. Bill was a loving husband, loving father and proud papa. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Rose Mary (Gerrior) McTague; step-daughters: Terri Lee Sutherland (Michael Gropp); Marilou Sutherland (Daniel MacNeil); step-son: Sandy Sutherland (Jennifer); grandchildren: Christopher Sutherland (Carla), Patrick Gagnon, Sarah Hamill, Drew Hamill, Brea MacNeil, Josef Sutherland, Emily MacNeil; and great-granddaughters: Nora and Sylvia Sutherland. He will be dearly missed by his brother-in-law, Wayne Gerrior (Florence Knowles) and sister-in-law, Mildred Adams (Bernie Forrestall) and many nieces and nephews who will also miss him. He was predeceased by sister-in-law, Marion Laffin. He was a devout Catholic, expressing his faith by his good actions. He had a love of fine art, enjoyed travelling and was the kindest man. He continued his affection for children throughout his life with teaching, and his love for his special girls, whom he cherished, never missing a concert or a family gathering. He loved his family very much. The family will be receiving visitors Sunday, January 27, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Avenue, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 28, at 11 am in Christ the King Parish, Trenton with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in his name may be made to the Riverside Cemetery Company or a charity of one's choice. Knights of Columbus Council 1667 will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 pm Sunday to conduct their service. Condolences may be sent by visiting: www.rhporter.ca
